Important Information: Trey with the PSO

The Pittburgh Symphony Orchestra sent the following email with important information for ticket-holders to Tuesday's performance by Trey Anastasio & PSO. Please take a second to check it out if you are attending!

We are looking forward to an amazing evening of music on Tuesday, February 14 at 7:30pm, as Trey joins the PSO at Heinz Hall. We encourage you to use this email as a guide if you are new to a classical music concert, Heinz Hall, or the Cultural District of Pittsburgh. Should you have a question that is not answered here, please refer to the FAQ page on our website.

PRE-CONCERT MUSIC! Arrive early, at 6:30pm, for live bluegrass in the Grand Lobby of Heinz Hall with Pittsburgh's Shelf Life String Band. Free to all ticket holders.

Trey Anastasio Orchestral: A Brief History

Trey Anastasio kicks-off his sold-out Winter 2012 Orchestral Tour tonight at Symphony Hall in Atlanta with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Scott Dunn conducting. The tour also includes performances with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra on February 14, the Colorado Symphony on February 28, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic on March 10.

Anastasio has a rich history of orchestral performances spanning over a decade. Anastasio made his orchestral debut with the Vermont Youth Orchestra on February 2, 2001 in Troy, NY (reprised two nights later at The Flynn Theatre in Burlington), with Troy Peters conducting. This performance included two compositions by Trey’s mentor, the late Ernie Stires, “Chat Rooms” and “Samson Riffs.” The highlight of these shows was the orchestral debut of “Guyute” that reintegrated the song’s original elements that would – in the Phish repertoire – evolve as “My Friend, My Friend.” These performances were capped by renditions of “The Inlaw Josie Wales” with Trey on acoustic guitar.

Last year, we blogged about "The Spreadsheet" and talked a bit about Kevin's tireless and unrelenting quest to provide this invaluable tool to the fan community. Working selflessly & quietly, Kevin has continued to update & add to this amazing set of links including side shows. At some point last night, Kevin reports that the spreadsheet has surpassed the absolutely incredible goal of 1,000,000 downloads. All of that in less than three years. Stunning.

To give you an idea of how many downloads are done from the spreadsheet, and how many fans use it: As of Noon today, the download count was already up to 1,001,032.

Video of the Week: 1995-06-26

We've been remiss. Over the last six months or so we've highlighted some incredible videos on our weekly Video of the Week blog post. In so doing some of the most prolific YouTube uploaders have had their videos featured including HarpuaFSB, mkdevo, and Silverchair97. Another videographer that has some pretty stellar videos is telekinetica. Here is the amazing Down with Disease from 1995-06-26. While unfinished, this monster clocks in at over 20 minutes and rightfully gets highlighted on the Disease jamming chart. Check it out, and by all means, leave a thumbs up or a positive comment on the YouTube page of this vid. These guys selflessly film and upload so we can all enjoy.

Every Friday, we highlight a video with a brief recap of the show it is from and what makes it interesting, noteworthy or simply fun. Video of the Week: 1991-10-15

It is funny how videos surface after long periods of time. It always piques the interest of what other gems lay out there waiting to be discovered. Such was the case earlier this week when Chalkdust Torture from 1991-10-15 appeared on YouTube. Though just debuted earlier in the year at the shortened show from 1991-02-01 at Brown University, Chalkdust was already a setlist veteran and in heavy rotation. The prior show was the Olympia Gamehenge show from 1991-10-13. Sadly, the uploader has not much more of the show, barring a few minutes of the opening to "Foam", as he was asked to stop taping.

SOPA + PIPA Protests

As most of you are aware, yesterday, Wednesday, January 18, 2012, witnessed the largest protest in the relatively short history of the Internet. Phish.net joined the massive protests against SOPA (H.R. 3261) and PIPA (S.968) by going dark for 24 hours. Yesterday, many of you exercised your civil rights and responsibilities and made your views known by contacting your representatives. As we return to live service, we'd like to take this opportunity to remind all of our users that democracy is something that happens every day.
