Mystery Jam Monday Part 117

Posted 2 years ago by lumpblockclod - 36 comments Link: http://phi.sh/b/506f8bec, posted in the Audio category (843 listens)

Welcome to the Columbus Day edition of Mystery Jam Monday here at Phish.net. As usual we will be playing for an MP3 download, courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. The rules haven't changed: you need to correctly identify the song and the date to win. Post your guess in the comments. One guess per person per day (with the second “day” starting after I post the hint). A hint will be posted on Tuesday (if necessary) and the answer will be posted on Wednesday. Good luck...

Wednesday Answer: Looks like we have a third member joining Rabeldy and Pauly in the faculty lounge. Congrats to Bl002e for being first with the Columbus 7/15/00 "Disease." What could be more appropriate this week than Columbus and Disease? In any event, the Blog will be hosting a Bl002e-curated Mystery Jam sometime soon. See everyone on Monday...

lastubbe Dude, it's definitely a Bowie.

Not a clue as to where it could be from. Not sure with such a short clip how we could figure that out. Give us a clip of the main theme where Gordo implements the slap technique and it may be possible to get it down to an era.

bl002e Despite auto-correct mangling that, I agree. As jaw-droppingly awesome the segue into While My Guitar was, the whole Mango/Have Mercy/Bug debacle had the show leaving a bad taste in my mouth for a while afterward. Phish.net's show note regarding this moment is all too kind:

July 15, 2000

Polaris Amphitheater, Columbus, OH

Set 1: AC/DC Bag, First Tube, Limb By Limb, NICU, Dirt, Roses Are Free, Wolfman's Brother > My Soul, Julius

Set 2: Down with Disease[1] -> While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Makisupa Policeman[2], Piper > The Mango Song, Bug, You Enjoy Myself

Encore: Loving Cup

[1] Unfinished.
[2] Key phrase was "heady nuggets."

Notes: Disease was unfinished. The jam out of Mango included a Have Mercy tease. The key phrase in Makisupa was “heady nuggets.”

More like:

[3] The jam out of Mango included a segue into the opening chords of Have Mercy, which for no logical reason was aborted. A painfully long band discussion followed, raising expectations for what song would follow if Have Mercy was not chosen. Ultimately, Bug followed, disappointing approximately 93.2% of the audience.

I shit you not, that was one of the first two jams I checked out, and not because of the Columbus thing -- 7/25/99 Birds was the other, because my initial instinct was that it was a '99-00 Birds, and those two were the best of the lot...er, flock. But then the Columbus thing clicked because of the 7/23/99 jam, and DWD was the next one I listened to.

So great minds think alike, I suppose.
