Specifically, the post-Kung jam. Think I got my first MMMJ. Just under the centennial wire. Was just raving about this show to a friend. Prefer the Meatstick, but good times that tour!

July or December '99 immediately jumped to mind. Before I could find a jam that fit, I'm pretty sure that andrewrose got it.

@andrewrose I'm positive it's that jam from 7/15/99... nice call. As an aside, this show was webcast-- is there an old pixelated stream rip or at least a more SBDish recording floating around?

I know, have never heard a great sounding copy of this show. Strangely enough I've never been able to track down decent-sounding copies of a lot of great shows I saw that year. Time for some archival releases!

Thats a BOAF jam drumbeat but that "squiggle" effect in the background is something I can't place. Does Trey still use that?

I was always under the impression the squiggle came from his keyboards, if that's the case he doesn't use it anymore. However, I really have no idea. I'd love to actually find out what that comes from.

Its used a bunch during 6/14/00 especially the BOTT

Yeah, it's weird. Some tours seem too have many good sounding AUD's and others don't. Not that I have meticulously delved into etree trying to find every source I can, it just seems that some years have a lot more than others.

nice Andrew. i was at that PNC show, it was killer. the Split > Kung -> JAM is at the top of my personal phish highlights. wish we had it in higher fidelity.

if anyone can tell me what that theme is trey is playing, i'd appreciate it. it turns up most frequently in 99, but i've spotted it in 98 too and as far back as 97.

it reminds me of mike oldfield's tubular bells. wondered how long it would take before surfacing in a MMJ. that pattern of notes from Trey has been driving me crazy since 99. off the top of my head, you could check out the Tube from Oswego, it's in that as well, starting around the 4:20 mark.

I think you're referring to what I call/consider the jiboo riff (used a lot in jiboo, on the studio jiboo, too). It was definitely a heavily used reoccurring riff/theme in 99.

Hey Thunder.... Im not sure about others- but the "theme" you refer to is Crosseyed and Painless" from The Oswego Tube. Trey loves to tease this song, ever since they played it for Halloween 96'.

@maddyb4me - I'm familiar with C&P of course (and I did a quick relisten to it) but I don't hear that. There's a bouncy little thing Page does on the keyboard, but I don't identify that with the tease I'm talking about in the MMJ and the Oswego Tube starting ~4:20. Can you point me to a version/timing? Anyways, thanks. I think @TheDeputy has it spotted.

@TheDeputy - yeah agreed, you've got it with the Jibboo. I totally brain farted on it. I wish i could recall some examples off the top of my head but it can definitely be found in 98 and 97 (maybe earlier) ... several years before it surfaced as Gotta Jibboo. Maybe my "time" on the Oswego Tube is different than yours... I have crowd cheering for the first minute, so maybe its a little different than your version. At my time, at 4:30- Trey begins Crosseyed licks (at least that I hear). It continues until the breakdown back into Tube.

Anyway- glad somebody cleared this up for you.

So the same gotta jibboo melody line (which i find sounds identical to that section of mike oldfield's tubular bells side 1 pt. 3) is played in the 8/3/98 gumbo starting ~13:30.
