Video of the Week: 2011-08-15 Waves

The days are ticking down quickly as we approach Worcester and another summer of Phish. While it is impossible to predict which songs will get the "extra mustard" in 2012, you can't refute that Waves was one of most consistently extraordinary songs in 2011. Starting with the remarkable tech rehearsal in Bethel, and four subsequent versions, culminating with this UIC gem, Waves impressed throughout the summer.

Sandwiched in the middle of the "elements set", this Waves, like the ones before it last summer, soars.

Love how Gordo plays the Undermind line for a good 2 minutes before going into Undermind.

I didn't think they were going to play this song at UIC so I was super fucking jacked when trey started playing it. I still have a video on my phone that captures my outrageous reaction. Great jam

This waves was hot. Really liked the segue into Undermind. Very primal rhthymic feel IMO.

They start playing Undermind for at least a full 2-3 minutes, with Trey stepping up to the mike, then stepping back as it to say, "Let me play sorcerer for a few minutes." To me, that's the start of the song. The download starts Undermind after that blazing intro. WTF?? Lol

Everyone thought it was going into Timber at the show (which it was supposed to, per the Tom Marshall comments a while back) but some confusion lead to Undermind...and maybes its a good thing it did because that ending up getting a nice jam as well. The Timber they played 2 nights later was nothing special. Great show all around, and I think all 3 of these shows are on youtube in the same quality.
